The objective at this coastal home was to create a larger more organized family room with adjacent screen porch that would allow the homeowner more expansive views and a more functional way to enjoy the outdoors.
An 18′ x 22′ Family room addition was constructed with a 15′ x 15′ screened porch attached. The family room is now the central portal to the backyard with a sliding door that steps out to a hardscape patio on one side and double sliding doors that lead into the new screened porch on the other. The two alternate walls of the addition house a wall of expansive windows for added light and a wall of built-in custom cabinetry surrounding a gas fireplace and custom mantel surround. The built-in cabinetry neatly stores all of the electronic components and still leaves room for additional items, keeping the room clear of clutter and adding to the clean lines and open feel of the room.
The oak floors of the family room step down into the cool slate of the screen porch floor. The screens run from floor to ceiling to maximize the outdoor feel. The space is outfitted as a dining area and evokes a beachy feel which is appropriate given the homes proximity to the water.
